vIrtical: A new project for G.A.P.

The G.A.P. coordinates the European project vIrtical from 7th Framework Programme, with a duration of three years and starting date July 15, 2011.
The budget is 2,860,000 euros and involves eight partners. Five of the partners
are leading companies in their respective fields of research (ST Microelectronics, Thales, ARM, VOSYS and SYSGO) and three are universities (Technical University of Valencia, University of Bologna and Technological Institute of Crete). The project is coordinated by Maria Engracia Gomez, and involves Prof. José Duato, Prof. Antonio Robles and Dr. Jose Flich all them from GAP.
The aim is to improve performance, quality of service, reliability and consumption of embedded systems that can be found in televisions and mobile phones
, through developing the concept of virtualization in embedded systems environment.

 

G.A.P. Researchers win a price for their initiative

"The quality of projects and participation in the competition is increasing. One of the commitments of the City Council is to promote young researchers Valencian initiative and encourage its innovative character. Therefore, commitment to research and innovation by stimulating people to realize their projects."

This was stated by the Councillor for Innovation and Youth, Beatrice Simon during the awards ceremony of the fifth edition of the event "Valencia Idea", an initiative which aims to promote R + D + i between young scholars from Valencia.

The winners received prizes of 1200 euros is a second prize of 600 euros, is also the recognition that achieving these awards. Thus, the Consistory promotes knowledge transfer initiatives that contribute to scientific and technological development of society. And it's a tribute to those young people who actively engage in research that could become products, processes or innovative services, increasing the capacity to generate knowledge applied to Valencia.

The contest has four categories: Biotechnology-Biomedicine, Energy and Environment, Information Technology and Communication and Nanotechnology.

Beatriz Simon has said that "Valencia is becoming a benchmark for innovative business first order. And she pointed out that "is proud to have established this event", and "the fact that participation has been increasing over the five editions. "We started with 11 projects and 18 participants in this latest issue we have had 31 projects and 83 participants."

The jury which will award the prizes, all of them, very know professionals in their respective fields, praised not only the quality of projects submitted, but the subsequent practical application and commercial exploitation of them. The councilor thanked the jurors their collaboration and the work they have done in selecting the winners, "as this year has been difficult given the good quality of projects," which has been granted in the categories of Biotechnology and Biomedicine, and Energy and Environment "two ex-aequo prizes" in each to consider the jury that the four projects deserved award.
"Valencia Idea" retells a well-known sponsor, Gas Natural Group. In addition, the Foundation for Urban Innovation and Knowledge Economy (FIVEC) works for the third consecutive year the contest, as one of its main objectives is the promotion of innovation to the knowledge economy in the city of Valencia.

Nanotechnology:
- First prize: Nanoscopic Sensors for Security Control and Terrorism.
- Second prize: Nano-optical NAND gates based on semiconductor quantum dots

Energy and Environment:

- First Prize: Language electronics quality control in the process of purification of wastewater.
- First Prize ex aequo: Orange peel mobility Valenbisi diverse.
- Second prize: Optimization of production of biofuels using computational intelligence.


In the category of Biotechnology and Biomedicine:

- First Prize: Application of fMRI combined with virtual reality to study the evolution of phobic patients
- Second Prize ex aequo: Application of metabolomics to identify biomarkers of clinical utility: a new approach in personalizing cancer treatments.
- Second Prize ex aequo: Biotechnology applied to the restoration of historic and artistic heritage.
